Cook on merchant fleet vessels. General responsibilities of the Cook
include developing adequate menus and preparing meals for the crew depending on
the loot of local products.
His/her duty also is
to order these supplies and equipment for the vessel and ensure that galley is
clean, always ready for the inspection and pleasant to work in. In addition,
Cook manages food storage and canteen area together with 2nd Cook or, if not present,
with Messboy or Steward.
The wage rate varies
from USD 1500 - USD 2000 on dry
cargo vessels to around USD 2000 on
tankers and more on offshore fleet. Cruise Ships usually offer the salary of
the USD 2000 and more depending on
the qualification of the Cook.
