The Pumpman is a position almost exclusively associated with oil, chemical and gas tankers. As a rule, this rating is well-paid crewmember who progressed from an AB Seaman after a certain training and sea-time practice.
The Pumpman is responsible for the vessel's pumping and piping system; therefore his duties include operation, maintenance, repairs and regular condition checkings of these machineries and systems. Pumpman operates pumps during cargo operations, corrects leaks, upkeeps valves and reach rods, greases fittings, glands in the system.
Salary of the Pumpman on tanker vessels vary from USD 2 200 - 2 300 per month on Oil product Tankers and slightly bigger sum of USD 2 400 on Crude Oil Carriers to the decent USD 2500 to USD 3200 per month on the Chemical tankers and LPG / LNG carriers.
