Privacy Policy
Last Updated: [09.01.2026]
This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect and use on websites and mobile applications owned or controlled by Maritime Zone (the "Services").
Our Services may contain links to third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy statements.
Age requirement: Maritime Zone is intended for individuals who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child, we will delete it.
Information we collect
We collect information about you when you use our site and application. We collect information directly from you such as your contact information, CV, and profile information. We receive and store this information when you enter it on our website, send it to us, or provide it to us in any other way.
Categories of personal data we collect include:
- Contact information (name, email, phone number)
- Professional information (work history, certificates, skills, rank, experience)
- Demographic information (date of birth, nationality, gender)
- Documents (CV, certificates, photos)
- Account credentials (username, password)
- Communication data (messages sent through the platform)
We also collect information about you automatically. We automatically collect information about how you use our sites and mobile applications, the areas of our site that you visit, as well as information about your computer or mobile device including your IP address, device ID, approximate location (based on IP address), browser and operating system type, and referring URLs. This information is necessary for providing personalized and location-based content as well as for analyzing web traffic, troubleshooting problems, preventing fraud, and improving our services. We may combine this information with information in your account to help prevent fraud.
We may receive a confirmation when you open an email from Maritime Zone if your device supports this type of functionality (for example, through embedded images). You can opt out of marketing emails at any time. Transactional emails related to your account and service notifications may still be sent.
We also collect information you post on another user’s profile or comment on another user’s post (this is mostly related to Employers).
Legal Basis for Processing (EU/EEA Users)
If you are located in the EU/EEA, we process personal data under the following legal bases, as applicable:
- Contract performance: processing necessary to provide the Services (for example, creating your account, enabling job applications and messaging).
- Legitimate interests: operating, securing, and improving the Services, preventing fraud, enforcing our policies, and performing analytics (where these interests are not overridden by your rights).
- Consent: marketing communications, and certain cookies/technologies where consent is required by law.
- Legal obligations: compliance with applicable laws and lawful requests.
How does Maritime Zone use and share your personal data
We will only share personal data when we have the necessary right to do so. For jobseekers, most typically this refers to your CV profile which contains information you have provided to Maritime Zone including your contact information, work history, personal information, certificates, skills or other employment data related to yourself. Your CV profile may be shared with registered employers on Maritime Zone. This may occur when an employer finds your CV profile while searching our candidate database. Similarly, if you apply for a job posting listed by one of our registered employers or send your CV, your personal information may be shared.
We restrict access to candidate profiles to registered employers and use technical and organizational measures to reduce misuse (such as access controls, monitoring, and abuse prevention). We also take reasonable steps to verify employers and assess legitimacy as part of our onboarding and ongoing reviews. However, we cannot guarantee that every employer on the platform is fully legitimate at all times, and you should use your own judgment when sharing information.
Employers who access your CV/profile may act as independent data controllers for their own processing. After an employer views, downloads, or receives your CV/profile (for example, via search results, applications, or messaging), we cannot control how that employer stores, shares, or uses it. Maritime Zone is not responsible for third-party processing outside our Services.
We recommend that you do not include sensitive personal data that is not necessary for employment purposes.
We also share aggregated information (including approximate location data) about Maritime Zone site visitors and application users with third parties for analytics and to serve advertisements online. We may also aggregate data regarding job qualifications, schooling, age, experience level or other information relevant to the job search. This aggregated data does not identify users individually, and may be made available to employers or fellow job seekers.
If as a candidate you have opted-in to receiving promotional materials from third parties, information you have made available to us may be made available to these third parties who provide goods or services that we believe may be of interest to you.
For employers: any information you choose to publish about your company on Maritime Zone - including on job postings and your company profile/card - may be visible to prospective candidates and other users of the Services. Personal data of employer representatives that is not intended to be public (for example, internal contact details or billing information) is not displayed publicly and is used only for operating the Services, account administration, compliance, and support.
How we use non-personally identifiable information: We use non-personally identifiable information in aggregate form to build higher quality, more useful Services by performing statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our visitors and users, and by measuring demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the Services. We may provide statistical information based on this data to advertisers, users, and other current and potential business partners. We may also use the aggregate data to inform these third parties as to the number of people who have viewed and/or clicked through links to their sites. If we create a co-branded site with another company, information will be retained by both companies and subject to the privacy policies of both companies which will be published on the co-branded sites.
Service Providers (Processors)
We use trusted service providers to help operate, secure, and improve the Services. These providers may process personal data on our behalf under contractual obligations, confidentiality requirements, and appropriate security measures.
Categories of service providers may include: hosting and infrastructure, email delivery and communications, customer support tools, analytics, security and fraud prevention, payment processing (if applicable), and advertising/measurement partners.
International Data Transfers
Your personal data may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including Canada and the Netherlands, where our servers are located. Where required (for example, for transfers from the EEA), we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
For personal data that we have about you, you can
Delete Data: You can delete information about yourself that you have entered or ask us to erase or delete your personal data (e.g., if it is no longer necessary to provide Services to you). We typically delete your personal data from active systems within 72 hours of account closure or a valid deletion request. Backup copies may persist for up to 30 days after deletion from active systems.
We retain your personal data even after you have closed your account if reasonably necessary to comply with our legal obligations (including law enforcement requests), meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use/User Agreement. We will retain de-personalized information after your account has been closed.
Information you have shared with others (e.g., through messaging, by sending your CV or applying for jobs) may remain visible to those recipients after you close your account or delete the information from your own profile, and we do not control data that other Users copied out of our Services. Your profile may continue to be displayed in the services of others (e.g., search engine results) until they refresh their cache.
Change or Correct Data: You can edit some of your personal data through your account. You can also ask us to change, update or fix your data in certain cases, particularly if it’s inaccurate.
Hide your account and data: You can make your personal data hidden from employers who use our website and prevent access to your CV (where this feature is available in your account settings).
Right to Access and/or Take Your Data: You can download a copy of the personal data you provided through your account (e.g., your profile and uploaded CV/documents) in a commonly used format, or request an export by contacting us.
EU/EEA notice: If you are located in the EU/EEA, additional rights may apply under GDPR. Please contact us to exercise these rights.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
You should sign in to your account or use the contact form to contact the website administrator for the purposes listed above.
Data Retention
We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you Services. If you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you Services, you can delete your account directly through your profile settings or contact us at [email protected].
Retention overview: Active account data is retained while your account is active. Technical logs may be retained for security and troubleshooting purposes. Backup copies may persist for up to 30 days after deletion from active systems. Certain records may be retained longer where required to comply with legal obligations or to protect the Services (typically 3 to 7 years, depending on the context).
Security
You are responsible for keeping your username and password secret.
We take appropriate measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes.
Tracking Technologies
Technologies such as cookies, beacons, tags and scripts may be used by us and our partners, analytics, and service providers. These technologies are used generally for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
We currently use analytics and performance technologies such as Google Analytics/Google Tag Manager, Yandex Metrika, and Cloudflare Insights to measure performance, improve the Services, and help prevent fraud and abuse. We do not use Meta (Facebook) Pixel at this time.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Some features of the Services may not function properly if cookies are disabled. If you are located in the EU/EEA, cookie requirements may differ depending on applicable law and your choices in the Services (where such controls are available).
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. At this time, our Services do not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Links to third party web sites
Links to third party web sites or widgets to enable sharing of information through social networks on the Sites are provided solely as a convenience to the user. When a user uses these links, the user leaves the Sites. We have not reviewed all of these third party sites, do not control, and are not responsible for, any of the third party sites, their content or privacy practices. We do not endorse or make any representations about the third party sites, or any information, services, or products found on the sites. If a user decides to access any of the linked sites, we encourage the user to read their privacy statements. The user accesses such sites at user's own risk.
EU Data Protection Notice
If you are located in the European Union, please note:
- Users from the EU still have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, or erase their personal data.
- These rights are available in our service: you can view personal data we store about you in your account (profile / CV), you can edit or update your account information, and you can delete your account and data through your settings.
- For any other GDPR-related requests, you can contact us at [email protected]. We will make reasonable efforts to respond in accordance with applicable law.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice through the Services.
