Electrician is one of
the Engine Department officers who takes cake of the electric equipment
onboard. His main responsibility are generators and electrical circuits; their
faultless operation and maintenance.
daily checks of main switchboards, works with Low and High Voltage equipment and
upkeeps Lifeboat Electrical Winches, Lifeboat Electrical Motors, Emergency
Light batteries and so on. This officer is also expected to repair deck
winches, galley machines and navigational, radio and satellite equipment, etc.
The salary rate for
this position starts from USD 1800 -
2000 for General cargo ships and small utility vessels such as Tug or Crew
boats. There is a good leap to the wage of USD
4000 on Bulk Carriers, Container Ships, Heavy-Lifts, Multi-Purpose vessels
Electricians on the
Oil Product Tanker will get from USD
4000 to USD 5000, while work on
Chemical or Gas tanker will guarantee USD
5000 per month and more.
For offshore fleet ETO
Engineers are more commonly recruited. According to statistics,
salaries start from USD 150 per day
for small crafts and go up to USD 200 -
225 for proper size AHTS, PSV, Pipe Layers and similar vessels.
