Requirements:

Reports to: The Captain and/or Staff Captain.

Required documents:
CoC Chief Officer unlimited and as per STCW requirements.
Previous service as Chief officer in the cruise and on yachts over 100 meters for minimum 3 years and including sailing boat experience
Yacht is sailing in Northern Europe currently
The Chief Officer will take direct orders from the Captain/Staff Captain and delegate to the Deck Department in order to safely and fully utilize all of the ship’s abilities. The Chief Officer is also responsible for encouraging and maintaining good crew morale. In the event of the Captain becoming incapacitated through illness or any other reason and unable to assume his responsibilities, the Chief Officer will take over as the Senior Officer in Charge with the permission of the Flag State.
Job description as Chief Officer:
•Department Head of the Deck Department.
•The administration, supervision, safe and economical operation of the Deck Department including the maintenance of all spaces and equipment under the jurisdiction of the Deck Department, and the proper and timely preparation of all reports and records associated therewith, including entries in the Planned Maintenance System.
•Assigning Deck Officers and ratings, specific roles with respect to the Deck Department as defined in the Safety Management System.
•Crew training and/or delegating duties to suitably qualified personnel. Also responsible for discipline on board.
•Keeping up to date the Deck Department defect list and warranty claim list.
•Issuing and following up on Deck Department related Non-Conformity Reports (NCR).
•In charge of purchasing of all deck stores, spares and equipment.
•Ensuring that all potential hazards are identified, brought to the attending of the Captain and rectified where possible.
•Ensuring that any material defects which may affect the seaworthiness or the safe, efficient and pollution free performance of the vessel are reported to the Captain before the commencement of and during any voyage.
•In charge of the safety of all owner and guest movements on board. Including tender/gangway/helicopter operations.
•Assist the Captain with ensuring that all crew understand ISM procedures and compliance with the yacht’s Safety Management System (SMS).
•To ensure departmental compliance with Risk Assessments, Permit to Work and Standard Operating Procedures as per vessel SMS.
•All stability and stress calculations and the enforcement of pollution prevention measures in the Deck Department. Ensuring that the yacht is secured for sea and after berthing.
•Supervising deck work especially that of an unusually hazardous nature and ensuring compliance with the Company’s Safety and Pollution Policies. Ensuring that all third party contractors are advised of the SMS requirements and Permits to Work issued as required.
•Safe transfer and loading of stores and equipment, in accordance with the provisions of the UK Merchant Seamen Code of Safe Working Practices (COSWP).
•Inspection, administration and recording of all lifting appliances on board.
•Designated Ship Security Officer SSO.
•Responsible for the medical organization on-board including medical stores and nominating appropriately qualified crew to perform medical care for the crew. Substituted by the Nurse as required.
•Maintaining the on board key system.
•Carrying out any inspections as necessary and as required by the Captain.
•Keeping a Navigational Watch at sea or at anchor and, In Port Watch as per the watch-plan.
•Ability to delegate, effective communicator, organized, diplomatic and versatile
•Boat handling, watch keeping and navigational skills
•Excellent ISM and ISPS knowledge and practices
•Extensive maintenance knowledge and skills- cleaning, rust/corrosion, painting, varnishing, rope splicing, fiberglass, carpentry, outboard motors and maintenance product knowledge
•Advanced knowledge of all water sports
•Computer skills
