Maintenance of Engine Department;
Assignmenments and errants of Chief Engineer and other officers;
Small mending jobs around the vessel.
Wiper works hard to acquire the necessary seatime and become an Oiler in due course. Wiper’s salary on General cargo vessels may start from USD 400 and rise up to USD 900 per month. Managers of Container ships, Bulk Carriers, Heavy-Lifts and Multi-Purpose vessels will offer USD 500 - USD 1000 per month. Meanwhile, wipers usually earn about USD 1 100 on RO-RO and Passenger ships.
Wiper’s salary on tanker vessels might not differ much from a dry cargo fleet. Rates fluctuate from USD 500 to USD 1 100 both on oil and gas tankers. However, there might occasional good offers i.e. USD 2 000 on Shuttle Tankers.
